30 as One - A Poem for 2017

30 as One

A year's gone by, both fast and slow
A milestone for me and my Lou
Others have made it this far, yes, I know
And like them, I'm thankful too.

For this was the year we made 30 as one
As a family - as husband and wife
From that small beginning there was begun
Tales of love and tales of  life.

Tales of toddlers and teens and emerging adult
That turned our world on top of its head.
It's a process in which we've learned to exult
It's a place the good Shepherd has lead.

The downhill, the uphill, the nights of hard rest
Small regret and big joy woven tight
God faithful through all, even the pressed
God giving his comfort and light.

Looking back, we thank and pray we have grown
In faith, in hope, in love.
For next is upon us! There's new grace to be sown
For God's kingdom - here and above.
